Cycling & Running Conditions Index
A single "good to go" score for the 7–8am and 5–6pm commute windows • Last checked: 00:41 on Thursday 29 October 2026
Checking a full forecast to work out whether it's worth getting the bike out, or lacing up for a run, is more effort than it should be — so this page does the working-out for you. Wind, rain, visibility and temperature for the morning and evening commute are boiled down into a single score out of 100: the higher the number, the better the conditions. Covers the next eight days, weekends included, since a run doesn't care what day of the week it is.

AM vs PM commute score, and rain risk
About this score
Forecast figures come from Open-Meteo's free weather API for Southampton, checked every 30 minutes. Each commute window starts at 100 points and loses ground for whatever's working against you: up to 35 for rain probability, 15 more for heavy rainfall, up to 30 for wind, up to 25 for fog or mist, and up to 25 for near-freezing or very hot temperatures — any thunderstorm caps the score at 15 outright. It's a simple, transparent points system, not a black box, and the day's overall score is just the worse of its two commute windows.
This is general guidance for planning ahead, not a substitute for checking the sky before you head out, or for your own judgement on the day. For the school-specific version of this idea, see the School Run Weather Advisory; for UV exposure on longer runs, see the UV Forecast.
