School Run Weather Advisory

Just the 8–9am and 3–4pm windows that actually matter • Last checked: 00:41 on Thursday 29 October 2026

Nobody doing the school run cares what the weather's doing at 2pm while everyone's stuck at a desk (or a classroom). What matters is whether it's coats-and-wellies or sunglasses-and-suncream for the dash out of the door at quarter to nine, and whether pick-up at half three needs an umbrella or just a jumper. This page ignores the rest of the day and zooms in on exactly those two windows, for the next eight school days, with frost, ice and rain flagged up front — the things that actually change how the morning goes.

Morning vs afternoon temperature, and rain risk

About this data

Forecast figures come from Open-Meteo's free weather API (an ECMWF/ICON blended model), for Southampton, checked every 30 minutes. The 8–9am and 3–4pm figures are each built from that hour and the one either side of it (08:00+09:00, 15:00+16:00) — temperature is averaged, but rain probability takes the higher of the two, since knowing it might rain at any point in the hour is more useful for planning a dash to the car than a smoothed-out average would be.

This is general local guidance, not an official warning service, and it can't know your specific school's own risk assessment. For actual closures, see the School Closures Tracker; for the wider picture, see the 5 Day Forecast.
