Beer Garden Weather

A lighthearted ranking of this week's best afternoons for sitting outside a Southampton pub - based on a genuine forecast, not a guess.

Every afternoon (roughly midday to early evening) for the coming week is scored out of 100 using four real forecast values for that window: temperature, chance of rain, wind speed and cloud cover. It's a bit of fun, but the underlying numbers are the same live Open-Meteo forecast used across the rest of this site - feel free to link straight to this page from your pub's own site or socials.

How the Score Works

Each afternoon's score is built from four genuine forecast values, weighted by how much they actually affect an outdoor pint: temperature and rain chance count for 35% each, with wind and cloud cover worth 15% each. A warm (around 22°C), dry, calm and sunny afternoon scores close to 100; a cold, wet, windy and overcast one scores close to zero. It's a simple, transparent formula rather than a hidden algorithm - and like any forecast, it gets less certain the further into the week you look.

Where this data comes from: live hourly forecast data for Southampton from the free Open-Meteo service, cached for 30 minutes. The scoring formula above is applied directly to that data with no manual adjustment - it's just as capable of predicting a washout as a scorcher.
