Local Webcam Gallery

Ground-level "see it now" views of Southampton's harbour, docks and the Solent - a live complement to our Rainfall Radar and satellite pages, which show the sky above but not the water itself.

Radar and satellite imagery are excellent for tracking weather systems, but they can't tell you what a berth, a stretch of water, or a harbour entrance actually looks like right now. This page pulls together public webcams from around Southampton Water and the wider Solent so you can get a genuine ground-level view alongside the rest of the site's live data.

Cowes, Isle of Wight - River Medina Solent (embedded live below)

A live, embedded camera looking over the River Medina at Cowes from the Island Sailing Club - one of the most active small-boat and racing harbours on the Solent, and the finish line for the Fastnet Race and Cowes Week. This is the one webcam on this page embedded directly (confirmed working via Windy's public embed player); the others link out to their own host sites.

Southampton - River Itchen Southampton, River Itchen (approx.)

A live view of ships and small craft passing on the River Itchen, one of the two rivers (with the Test) that meet at Southampton Water. Hosted by SkylineWebcams, whose terms only allow the live video to be embedded by the camera's own host site, so this links straight through to their page rather than an unreliable embed.

Calshot Spit marks the western entrance to Southampton Water, right by the Calshot Activities Centre - a well-known windsurfing, sailing and kitesurfing spot, and a good indicator of conditions out towards the open Solent. Its own Windy camera isn't embeddable, but it shows up on the live map above and its Windy page is linked here.

Portsmouth Portsmouth Harbour (approx.)

A live city/harbour view of Portsmouth, home to the Royal Navy's largest base and the Spinnaker Tower - useful context for weather moving along the coast towards or away from Southampton.

Where this data comes from: the interactive map and the Cowes camera are both provided live by Windy.com's public webcams network (Cowes camera itself courtesy of the Island Sailing Club via camsecure.co.uk). The other cameras are hosted by SkylineWebcams and WebcamTaxi and link straight through to their own pages, since their terms only allow the live video itself to be embedded by the camera's own host. Camera pin positions on our map are approximate landmark locations, not surveyed exact camera positions. Webcams occasionally go offline for maintenance or connectivity reasons at the host end - this is normal and outside our control.
